WASHINGTON – Today, Representatives Jahana Hayes (CT-05) and Antonio Delgado (NY-19) announced the reintroduction of the Helping America’s Farmers Act, which would create a new loan program at the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Farm Service Agency (FSA) to better serve farmers during economic crises.

Congresswoman Jahana Hayes (CT-05) releases a statement on the inclusion of $9.65M to support 10 Community Project Funding (CPF) requests from CT05 in the upcoming FY2022 appropriations bills. Members were limited to no more than 10 Community Project Funding requests across all subcommittees and there was no guarantee that any requested projects would be funded, however, all 10 projects submitted to the House Committee on Appropriations by Congresswoman Hayes have been included.

This week, Congresswoman Hayes (CT-05) and Congresswoman Jenniffer González-Colón (PR-At Large), introduced the WIC for Kids Act to eliminate barriers to the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) enrollment for millions of pregnant women, mothers, and children. Removing these barriers will ensure millions of eligible mothers and children are able to get on the WIC program and stay on the program, while they need it. This will improve child and maternal health, increase food access, and move America one step closer to eradicating hunger.

Congresswoman Jahana Hayes (CT-05) introduced the Eliminating the HHS Discrimination Division Act to abolish the Conscience and Religious Freedom Division (CRFD) established by the Trump Administration in 2018 in the Office for Civil Rights at the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). The elimination of the Division will prevent religion from being used as a basis for discrimination against women and LGBTQ+ individuals.

Today, Jahana Hayes (CT-05), Representatives Jim Himes (CT-04), Chris Pappas (NH-01), and Annie Kuster (NH-02) introduced the Multi-State Worker Tax Fairness Act. This bill will prevent the over-taxation of individuals who telework in one state for companies located in another.

On Monday, June 21, 2021 the City of Waterbury was awarded a $4,000,000 federal grant by the Office of Public Health and Science and the Office of Minority Health at the US Department of Health & Human Services to fund Advancing Health Literacy for Improved Health Outcomes. The focus of this two-year grant is to increase health literacy, improve COVID-19 vaccination rates and access to primary care in underserved urban and rural communities across the nation. The City of Waterbury was one of only 30 such awards made to cities nationally. Waterbury is among only 30 cities in the entire nation selected for this funding.
