  • Explanation of the request: This project would be a valuable use of taxpayer funds because funding would be used for the second and final phase of sidewalk replacements along West Avon Road, Country Club Road, and Scoville Road and includes the replacement of 5,580 linear feet of sidewalk. Four of Avon’s five public schools are located in the project area and will be directly served by the sidewalks. The project will also service the secondary village center development that was created as a neighborhood business zoning district in the 1960s, facilitate easier and safer access to the Sycamore Hills recreation complex, and link West Avon Road to the 4.8 miles of the Farmington Valley Greenway that run through town via Scoville Road.

The facility will serve commercial and residential buildings and be supported by users and by the town's annual budget.

  • Explanation of the request: This project would be a valuable use of taxpayer funds because this initiative is critical to building trust and relationships between the police and the city's youth population. Funding would be used to pay officers their contractually obligated overtime to coordinate the event. The program is conducted during June, July and August and sees 125 kids attend these events on Friday and Saturday evenings.

  • Explanation of the request: This project would be a valuable use of taxpayer funds because funding would be used to complete the second floor of the Northfield Firehouse. The second floor is designed to be used for training, meeting, exercise, restroom, uniform/firefighting bunker gear storage, and office space for the officers. Completion of the project will allow for greater focus on the primary job of providing emergency care, rescue, and firefighting for the residents of Northfield in the Town of Litchfield.
