Press Release

WASHINGTON – Congresswoman Jahana Hayes (CT-05) releases statement on the passage of H.R. 2119, the Family Violence Prevention and Services Improvement Act of 2021, a bipartisan legislation to reauthorize and update the Family Violence Prevention and Services Act.

“I supported H.R. 2119, to reauthorize the Family Violence Prevention and Services Improvement Act, because our communities need funding to address the increased rate of intimate partner and family violence. By improving local support services, we can also build the capacity of organizations whose mission is to help communities of color, Tribal communities, LGBTQ+ individuals, and people with disabilities. Connecticut will receive a 37 percent increase in funding for programs tackling these issues, allowing men, women, children and vulnerable individuals to receive assistance when they need it most,” said Congresswoman Hayes.

The Family Violence and Prevention Services Improvement Act (FVPSA) of 2021:

  • Shifts investments to increase prevention efforts, therefore reducing the rate of intimate partner violence and decreasing the funding needs for support services;

  • Increases dedicated resources for over-represented and underserved populations, including communities of color, Tribal communities, LGBTQ+ individuals, and people with disabilities; and

  • Ensures survivors can receive culturally appropriate, accessible services.
