WASHINGTON - Congresswoman Jahana Hayes releases statement on H.R. 5142, legislation to award posthumously a Congressional Gold Medal, in commemoration to the servicemembers who perished in Afghanistan on August 26, 2021, during the evacuation at Hamid Karzai International Airport.

"I supported H.R. 5142 because every American owes our servicemembers a debt of gratitude for their heroic efforts in Afghanistan in August. These brave men and women sacrificed their lives to complete their mission and help those trying to escape the Taliban regime. May we keep the families and loved ones in our hearts. This legislation helps ensure they will not be forgotten," said Congresswoman Hayes.
