WASHINGTON - Today, Congresswoman Jahana Hayes (CT-05) voted against H.R. 6192, the Hands Off Our Home Appliances Act.

“Today I voted against the “Hands Off Our Home Appliances Act,” an effort by House Republicans to undermine the ability of the U.S. Department of Energy to enforce efficiency standards that lower costs and help mitigate the impacts of climate change.

Federal energy efficiency standards are not bans and no appliances will be removed because the standards do not impact existing household appliances. On average, these efficiency standards save families up to $500 a year on their utility bills.

Additionally, efforts to weaken energy standards would result in greater greenhouse gas emissions, compromising public health and the worsening climate crisis.

I remain committed to ensuring energy efficiency standards continue to benefit consumers and the environment.”
