WASHINGTON, D.C.  – Today, January 15, 2026, Congresswoman Jahana Hayes (CT-05), Ranking Member on the Subcommittee on Nutrition and Foreign Agriculture joined Congresswoman Angie Craig (MN-02), Ranking Member of the House Agriculture Committee and House Agriculture Committee Democrats to announce the introduction of the “Farm and Family Relief Act,” legislation to provide aid to farmers and families.

This bill has three components. The framework provides a one-time supplemental payment to farmers, delays the cost shift of SNAP to states by four years and the administrative expenses by two years and requires Congressional approval before the implementation of any tariffs. The legislation calls for much needed aid to farmers while also granting states flexibility to continue programs for low-income households experiencing food insecurity.

Relief for families and farmers must move in tandem. We are not willing to provide billions to one group while leaving the other behind. House Democrats are not waiting for Republicans in the majority to deliver relief for farmers and families who are hurting right now.
