CT Military Relief Information:

Coast Guard members are eligible to apply for grants of up to $5,000 and they can apply multiple times.

CT Food Bank:

The CT Food Bank provides food for adults and children across most of Connecticut, including Fairfield, Litchfield and New Haven counties.

FoodShare:

Mobile food pantries for TSA employees and a food assistance program for people impacted by government shutdown.

United Way:

Federal workers in Connecticut can click the link above or call 211 to ask about different assistance programs.

Tuition Payments:

The Connecticut State Colleges and Universities system, which oversees the state’s community colleges and regional universities, is postponing tuition payments from federal workers and their families until the shutdown is over.

UConn has taken a similar approach, waiving late fees and granting deferments to students who contact the Office of the Bursar because they are affected by the shutdown.

Water Bills:

Connecticut Water said it would waive interest fees on overdue balances and work with federal workers to maintain their water service until their paychecks resume. The utility said federal workers can also apply for assistance through its Help 2 Others program.

Electric Bills:

Eversource said they would operate by a case-to-case basis if people have problems paying for their bills.

Webster Bank:

Gov. Lamont's partnership with Webster Bank to launch a program that will provide no-interest loans to federal gov't employees.

Unemployment Benefits:

Federal workers who have been furloughed can apply for unemployment through the State Department of Labor. As of now workers who are on the job but not getting paid are not eligible. State legislation has been introduced that would change the state law and allow those federal workers to receive unemployment.

AirBnB:

In Connecticut and across the country, the home-sharing service Airbnb is offering a one-time bonus to federal workers who have been furloughed or are working but not getting paid. If those employees host a guest in their home for three total nights between Dec. 18 and March 18 they will get $110 extra from Airbnb under a program that’s called “A Night On Us.”
