WASHINGTON D.C. – Today, Congresswoman Jahana Hayes (CT-05) released the following statement after voting for a three-year extension of the Affordable Care Act (ACA) enhanced premium tax credits, and reverse the impact of dramatically increased premiums, copays and deductibles that millions of Americans are experiencing following the expiration of subsidies at the end of last year.
The legislation passed the House of Representatives in a vote of 230 to 196.
“Americans are left wondering how they will afford healthcare. With the rising cost of living, many families are facing the tough decision of choosing to pay for basic necessities and seeking medical care. Every American should have access to healthcare and Republicans have failed to offer any other options.
Enhanced subsidies are broadly popular and can be the difference between someone being able to access life saving care and having no insurance at all. Democrats worked hard to force this vote and I am pleased to see it finally pass on the House floor.
I urge the Senate to bring this legislation to a vote and the President to sign it into law.
