WATERBURY – Today, Congresswoman Jahana Hayes (CT-05) announced that Israel Putnam Elementary School in Meriden has been recognized as a National Blue Ribbon School for 2024 by the U.S. Department of Education. Founded in 1982, the National Blue Ribbon School Program recognizes public and non-public schools for achievements in academic performance or progress in closing the achievement gap among diverse student groups.
“Being recognized as a National Blue Ribbon School honors the dedication and commitment of the educators, students, and families who make Israel Putnam Elementary School an environment where young people can learn and grow,” said Congresswoman Hayes. “I am thrilled to see Israel Putnam Elementary, and the Fifth District, being celebrated at the federal level for its leadership and academic achievement.
Now in its 41st year, the National Blue Ribbon Schools Program has recognized over 10,000 schools. Photographs and brief descriptions of the 2024 National Blue Ribbon Schools are available at nationalblueribbonschools.ed.gov.
In addition to Israel Putnam Elementary School, previous Fifth District schools recognized as National Blue Ribbon Schools include Great Plain Elementary School in Danbury (2022); Frisbie Elementary School in Wolcott (2021); and Norton Elementary School in Cheshire and South Street School in Danbury (2020).
