WASHINGTON, D.C. –– Congresswoman Jahana Hayes (CT-05) released the following statement after she was selected by the Speaker of the House to serve on the House Committee on Agriculture. Speaker Nancy Pelosi released the list of committee assignments Wednesday night.
“I am pleased to be named to the House Committee on Agriculture. Connecticut’s Fifth Congressional District is home to thriving cities as well as rolling hills and rural farming communities. This committee will serve as a bridge between the communities I was elected to serve.
“As a member of the Committee on Agriculture, I will bring forth the voice of small family farmers, dairy farmers, conservationists, and all concerned with the future of agriculture and the protection of our waterways in the district.
“I will also work to ensure that food insecurity is not a reality any family has to face, by securing the future of food safety net programs like SNAP and school meal programs. I look forward to working with my colleagues in a bipartisan way on this very important committee.”
