WATERBURY – Today, Congresswoman Jahana Hayes (CT-05) released the following statement after the Social Security Administration announced beneficiaries will receive an 8.7% increase in benefits in 2023.
“Yesterday, the Social Security Administration announced benefits will increase by 8.7% in 2023. That means more than 65 million seniors will see an additional $140 per month in their Social Security check. This is welcome news and will have a tremendous impact on my constituents in Connecticut,” said Congresswoman Hayes. “Unfortunately, this announcement has also presented an opportunity for scammers and bad actors who try to take advantage of seniors. My office has already begun to hear from constituents about these fraudulent calls. The Social Security Administration will not contact beneficiaries about this announcement by phone and will never ask for a Social Security number or bank account information as a means of verification.
The Social Security Administration will send notice about this increase to beneficiaries by mail. You may also access information about benefits through your “my Social Security” account online at www.ssa.gov/myaccount.
Please be diligent and be wary of scammers who are trying to take advantage of seniors. My office is always here to help with Social Security issues and can be reached at (860) 223-8412.”
