Today, Congresswoman Jahana Hayes (CT-05) released the following statement after President Trump tweeted he instructed Administration officials to stop negotiating with House Democrats on a coronavirus relief package until after the election:
“It is unfortunate the Administration has independently decided to end their participation in bipartisan negotiations to provide a COVID-19 response package to the residents of Connecticut and the American people.” said Congresswoman Jahana Hayes.
“The COVID-19 pandemic has taken over 200,000 American lives and hundreds of thousands remain unemployed. We can not end the conversation now because our country needs this support. The Administration’s lack of leadership and transparency has greatly impacted the lives and livelihoods of many Americans. We should be working together to get a handle on the coronavirus and understand how it moves.
“The Updated Heroes Act is the legislation we need to ensure our nation meets the health and economic challenges of the pandemic. I will continue to work with my colleagues, to get a bill passed that will help Americans get through this crisis. The negotiations must resume so we can deliver the relief American families deserve during such a difficult time.”
On October 1st, Congresswoman Hayes voted to pass H.R. 925, an updated version of The Heroes Act. The Updated Heroes Act includes $2.2 trillion to further address the COVID pandemic. The revised proposal provides more federal funding for testing and contact tracing, Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefit increases, additional stimulus payments to American families and individuals, and additional rounds of the Paycheck Protection Program for small businesses and struggling nonprofits.
