Dear Friend, This week, I was proud to vote for a H.R. 299, the Blue Water Navy Vietnam Veterans Act of 2019. There are thousands of veterans, many in my district, who served in the Vietnam War on ships that never docked on the country's shores. Many of these veterans were exposed to Agent Orange, a herbicide and toxic chemical weaponized for war. For far too long, these service members were unable to access Veteran's Affairs disability benefits to remedy the many possible affects of exposure - such as various cancers, Parkinson's Disease, and heart disease - just because their ships never docked on the coast of Vietnam. H.R. 299 would allow these veterans to access the benefits they deserve. I was proud to be a cosponsor of this legislation, and am pleased that this bipartisan bill passed the House by a vote of 410-0. Please know that I am continuing to work with my colleagues on both sides of the aisle to ensure that those who have served our country have access to all the benefits they have earned.
