Today, Congresswoman Jahana Hayes (CT-05) joined in celebrating Emily Armstrong, who was presented with the 2020 Connecticut Congressional Staffer of the Year award from the Federal Executive Association of Connecticut (FEACT) during the Excellence in Government Awards Banquet. Ms. Armstrong was nominated for the award by her colleagues. Congresswoman Hayes made the following statement regarding Emily’s recognition:

“I want to congratulate and applaud Emily for receiving the 2020 Connecticut Congressional Staffer of the Year award. As a caseworker, Emily knows that not every case will result in a success story, but no matter the outcome, I can say for certain that each constituent who works with Emily walks away with a more complete understanding of the process and of government services in general. Her patience, dedication and commitment to public service and Connecticut’s Fifth District during a global pandemic, is unmatched. Thank you for being a true advocate to all.”

The FEACT Excellence in Government Awards Banquet is an annual program that honors the “best of the best” in Local, Federal, Postal, or Military service in Connecticut. There are over 10,000 federal employees in Connecticut, and less than 20 awards are presented. A “Blue Ribbon Panel” of non-Federal employees and the FEACT Board of Directors selects finalists in each category. The CT Congressional Staffer of the Year award recognizes individuals employed by a member of Congress.

Since joining the office in June 2019, Emily has assisted 347 constituents, experiencing issues with federal agencies. She has successfully assisted constituents having issues with the Social Security Administration, Internal Revenue Service, Department of Housing and Urban Development, U.S. Postal Service, Small Business Administration, and U.S. Department of Agriculture. When the global pandemic began, the office did not shut down. Emily and the casework team took on more cases than normal, opening over 550 new cases, assisting 63 small businesses with SBA loans, and 232 constituents with IRS issues.
