WASHINGTON - Congresswoman Jahana Hayes (CT-05) released the following statement regarding the need to immediately pass a security supplemental bill:
“Our allies desperately need our help. If Ukraine falls the United States will undoubtedly be plunged into a global conflict. On February 13, 2024, the Senate passed bipartisan comprehensive national security legislation to help our allies in Ukraine, Israel, and the Indo-Pacific and send critical aid to address the humanitarian crisis in Gaza. For two months, this legislation has been stalled by House Republicans. In the shadow of Iran’s attacks in Israel this past weekend, House Republicans continue their infighting and lack of action. We have the votes in the House to pass the bipartisan national security supplemental. This Senate passed bill can pass the House and be on the President’s desk within hours. It is a choice and a further delay tactic that Speaker Mike Johnson has not brought the Senate national security package to the House Floor. Speaker Johnson is trying to appease the most extreme members of his conference, at the expense of our global security. The United States cannot and must not abandon our democratic allies. I will exhaust every legislative option to get an aid bill passed. The one person standing in the way is Speaker Johnson. Statements won’t fix this, tweets won’t fix this, interviews won’t fix this, Mike Johnson must bring this bill to the floor so we can pursue the path that will deliver the most immediate aid to our allies and much needed humanitarian assistance.”
