WASHINGTON – Today, following the House vote to pass an additional continuing resolution to fund the government, Congresswoman Jahana Hayes (CT-05) issued the following statement:
“I voted to pass another continuing resolution to keep the government open and avert a shutdown. 106 Republicans voted against the resolution while 207 Democrats voted in support of this funding bill, allowing it to pass. Once again, House Democrats stepped in to provide the votes necessary to keep the government fully funded until March 1st, 2024.
In spite of this extension, we are in the same position as we were in September - with none of the twelve appropriations bills having passed the House and Senate and been signed into law. House Republicans cannot continue to legislate in this manner.
The deal struck between Senate Majority Leader Schumer and Speaker Johnson mostly aligns with the agreement made last summer between President Biden and Speaker McCarthy. Republican leadership must stop prioritizing votes on dangerous and extreme legislation and vote on the bipartisan agreement for the sake of the country.
Democrats have demonstrated our concrete commitment to finding bipartisan solutions every step of the way. I remain ready and willing to fund the government and deliver the critical services Americans are counting on.”
