WASHINGTON – Following the conclusion of a House vote to pass the Consolidated Appropriations Act, 2024, Congresswoman Jahana Hayes released this statement:
“Today, I voted to pass a six-bill FY2024 spending package to avert a partial government shutdown. The package includes funding for Agriculture-FDA, Commerce-Justice and Science, Energy and Water Development, Interior, Military Construction-VA, and Transportation-HUD.
After months of House Republicans attempting to slash critical programs, House and Senate leadership came to a compromise and produced final legislation that prioritizes the American people. The House passed the legislation by a vote of 339-85 with House Democrats providing 207 of the 339 votes.
I am pleased the package includes my priorities and provides $1.3 billion to fully fund the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) and $119 billion in mandatory funding to fully fund the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP). Child nutrition programs will receive $33 billion in funding, including $10 million for school breakfast equipment grants and $5 million for the Farm to School program. This is a major victory in the fight to combat child hunger.
This legislation also protects women by increasing funding for Violence Against Women Act prevention and prosecution programs. It invests over $10 billion in our water infrastructure across the nation, will prevent the eviction of nearly 5 million low-income households, and much more.
Additionally, 14 of my FY24 Community Project Funding requests for the Fifth District are funded. I have seen the impact my FY23 Community Project Funding requests have had on our communities and look forward to adding to this success.
House Democrats once again provided the votes for passage and rejected extreme Republican cuts and policies. This funding will stabilize our country through September.
This bill now heads to the Senate, and the President for signature. As we quickly approach the next government funding deadline, I urge my Republican colleagues to reject far-right attempts to embrace chaos and focus on the needs of Americans.”
