WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Congresswoman Jahana Hayes (CT-05) voted against H.R. 21, the Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act, legislation to impose criminal and financial penalties against medical professionals and insert the federal government into the doctor-patient relationship. In 2002, Congress passed the bipartisan Born-Alive Infant Protection Act to codify the protection of infants from intentional harm by health care professionals. This is the second time the Republican Majority has fast-tracked this legislation and lays the foundation for a national abortion ban.

“I support the right of everyone to make their own healthcare decisions, and the right of medical professionals to practice medicine that is in the best interests of their patients – without government intervention,” said Congresswoman Hayes. “This legislation is misleading, dangerous, and would force providers to make decisions out of fear, compromising patient care. Throughout my time in Congress, I have been clear: every woman should be able to make her own medical decisions with her doctor. I will continue advocating for legislation that saves lives and protects reproductive freedom for all.”
