Washington, DC - Congresswoman Jahana Hayes (CT-05) released the following statement on Saturday’s shooting at Chabad of Poway in California, which occurred on the last day of Passover and six months after the shooting at the Tree of Life synagogue in Pittsburgh:

“My heart breaks for the families of the victims and the greater Poway community that were touched by this senseless act of violence. Anti-Semitism and other forms of religious hatred have no place in our society. We must come together and remember all of the things that we have in common as Americans and defeat these hurtful and divisive beliefs.

“But we also must address the availability of assault weapons that are consistently used in these terrible shootings. We have the ability to enact commonsense policies to stop mass shootings but need the courage to act.”
