Congresswoman Hayes has introduced proposals that would mitigate carbon emissions and conserve our ecosystems, while creating high-wage, union jobs. She introduced the Clean School Bus Act and Clean Commute for Kids Act, which would allocate billions of dollars to replacing diesel school buses with zero-emissions busses, while prioritizing environmental justice communities and protecting American workers. She negotiated with the White House and Senate to secure $5 billion for these proposals in the bipartisan Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act. Additionally, she has helped to secure a Wild & Scenic designation for the Lower Farmington River and Salmon Brook, and is working to secure the same designation for 41 miles of the Housatonic River in Connecticut. Since her first term, she has been an original cosponsor of the Green New Deal and knows climate change mitigation must be centered in every policy Congress considers.
